I'm really feeling a bit down. Kissykit is in California visiting our Japanese daughter (for those who know); for those who don't, a student who stayed with us for 8 months. She is coming back for less than 24 hours before leaving for uni.
Son No 1 goes off on 13th, and son No 2 the same day as Kissykit, so I will have empty nest syndrome with a vengance. Although I might have felt a bit peeved about things being left laying around, extra clearing up, cooking etc, through the holidays, the house will really feel empty when they have all gone.
I know I am taking on more at work, and OH is saying we can do so many things, but having them around hasn't really stopped us doing anything anyway, and nothing will make up for their absence, except the fact that I have raised 3 good, independant young adults who feel ready to face the world on their own terms.

I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I don't have any words of 'been there, etc.' as our little ones are still both under 3, (that's not to say I'm not already dreading, completely, the day they go to school...); but I'm sure the good things about having the house/more time to yourself will emerge, and the times they're all back home again will be even more meaningful.

If it's a tiny consolation, when we met your family at Grapestock, your obvious closeness and happiness at being together was lovely to see - you have much to be proud of!
