  • Beware Doorstep Prepayment power scams

Just a heads up to those of you who have to use a prepayment key for your power supply.

There has been a vile spate of doorstep conning causing many who are already fincially limited to pay twice for their power - with that paid to the conners NEVER recovered.

85,000 prepayment electricity customers scammed - Yahoo! Finance

Worth a read - and pass the info to any family/friends who could be affected going forward.

If it sounds too good to be true it almost certainly is!

I would add to that - NEVER EVER agree to anything on the doorstep. I always ask callers to put their offers in writing (they never do)

This happened quite coincidentally, honest! It was not planned. We had a caller come to the door, selling something. My wife called out to my son if he could go to the door. The caller probably thought 'aha, woman and boy at home, quick & easy sale'. My little boy answered the door.

He is tall, built like the proverbial brick out-house, has a shaven head, does body building and is a black belt in Kung Fu. When he opened the door, and said, quite politely 'Can I help you?' the salesperson apparently gulped and said, 'Sorry, wrong house' and left. Can't think why!
