  • Would you talk over me?

It wouldn't be difficult given that I stop at five foot!

I took a telephone call this morning, it was from a lady with a company that I had registered my interest in their product. She had left a vm for me whilst I was away and I hadn't got around to returning her call.

I started to say 'oh thank you for calli....' She cut in - I remained silent and waited for her to end - she stopped, I continued, she cut in, I remained sil.....you get the picture.

Why would you bother calling (or talking in general to) someone when you only want to hear the sound of your own voice? WHY?

Still, I guess it was her phone bill

How rude! I'd have been very tempted to start singing "Laa-laa, not listening" at her til she shut up...

I hate it when people do that on the phone or face to face its very rude. I often get talked over by my sister and in the end I just shut up.

I have a dear friend that will do that fromtime to time when she's being a bit manic and shouty - very annoying but I forgive her cause I'm so fond of her. I wouldn't forgive that woman on the phone!

That so rude and very ignorant. Why did she ring you if she'd no intention of listening to what you had to say. I hope you told her you didn't want to use her site any more...that's if you could get a word in edge ways.

She's probably just a trained salesperson who is used to listening to the sound of her own voice. My O.H. is like that as he stands up & pontificates to rooms full of people quite regularly & once he starts he doesn't shut up even with me. Don't tell him but sometimes I just 'tune out' & nod & mumble every so often to feign interest!

That is so rude. I was brought up to believe that conversation is a two-way thing. It quite often happens to me too (maybe it's something to do with being only 5 ft tall) and I hate it.

My f-i-l does it all the time, then wonders why people don't strike up conversation with him.

My own parents have an awful habit of not actually listening to me (when they have phoned me). I then ask if they are listening (LW says that I am quite rude when I do).

We (in the main) are all blessed with 4 ways of taking in information (2 ears, 2 eyes) and only one way of giving it out. If we all used them in that ratio the world would be a much better place.

The best salesmen/marketers listen more than they talk.

I talk far too much (at least I am honest) but I wouldnt talk over someone. The entire family in laws are terrible for it and they just get louder and louder.

I didn't - she did .... when I was able to utter a couple of sillybubs I said I will call if I wish to take it further - she had the last word by saying 'ok, I will leave it with you'
