Sweet corn - pop corn

Have grown sweet corn and it did very well this year.Some of the cobs may be a little past their perfect best now so...

How do you get it to dry in order to store and be used as pop corn??
Can it be done?

Hmmm, good question.

I would assume the sun plays a large part or air drying, like those very slow roasted toms......

I should be ok with the drying bit I think - its the cob to kernels bit - how do you get them to dry - on or off the cob and if 'off' - how do you get the kernels off whole?

Have started to read your link lizzylemon - seems the sweet corn I grew to eat as corn on the cob is not good for making pop corn! hmmmmm
Might give it a go any way....nothing to loose really.

we used to let it dry on the cob off the plant in the sun, then wring your hands around it, and twist to get the kernels off.

I got some corn last year that was supposedly grown for popcorn...didn't work.
As you've got some that will otherwise be wasted it's got to be worth a try.
Once dried on the cob our kernels just pretty much dropped off.
