I saw a man interviewed on TV some time back - he was in his eighties and still involved in hill walking, fishing etc. He was married for many years and was asked what tips he had for a long, happy marriage/partnership.
His answer went: My wife and I are very fortunate to have completely separate interests. We do our own thing and when we get back home, we've something to talk about.
Another word on marriage from the American poet, Ogden Nash:
To keep your marriage brimming
with love in the loving-cup,
whenever you're wrong, admit it,
Whenever you're right, shut up.
yes, Bren, I can identify too, with your post. Great thread. My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

You shouldnt feel guilty. Quite honestly it sounds as though you have a fantastic relationship! In my opinion couples are too distant these days. Its bizarre to alot of people when you get a couple that can spend all their time together. I think its truly lovely that you get on so well, and completely natural that he sometimes gets on your nerves. Mixes things up a little I always say.http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jamiesjourney

I'm sure that all of us feel like that sometimes inluding our O.H.s & as long as you don't come to blows & can still have a laugh together what's the harm in it!Into every life a little rain must fall.

Yes, as I've said before, I'm nosey!
My mum and dad had already retired to Bridport so for me it was the obvious choice. So now you know some of it but that's enough about me. How about you...or is that another story?

Aww, thanks for sharing. Does he still bake? Where in East Anglia was the Pub?
We're both Essex born and bred. We met in 92 and married in 97, same gaps as you, but forty years later! We have also worked together, and done Pub work, sometimes together. Small world innit!?All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

As a newly married person (oh ok we've been together for 13 years!) we discovered that since raising the children is no longer our main focus we have time for some new interests - at the moment they're things which we both enjoy together - when we're not fishing or going to the rugby we're talking about fishing or rugby! But at the moment I'm happily here looking up new recipes (ahem) and Mr CF is rearranging the fishing shed. . .again - it'll be dark soon so I expect he'll come indoors eventually!
I read a great article once and it's main idea was that you can't live with someone for 20 years and still love listening to them eat cornflakes!!Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

My grandparents have been happily married for 60 years, they both sit at opposit ends of long livingroom watching their own tvs competing over who can turn it up louder than the other...but they do have a chat in the kitchen when they have their dinner
My nan goes to the old age centre with her friends and my grandad takes a walk to town to put a bet on the horses...Ive asked them why they dont go together and they both say we spend all our time together, this is our break from eachother!
