  • Bees and hornets....

My OH is thinking of getting bees...but one spanner in the spokes is that we have hornets nearby

Having watched about 5 of them decapitate the many wasps which were tucking into the apple peelings on the compost....he's rather concerned they'll consider a hive or two as a buffet banquet

Is there a way of preventing their access to the hive- whilst allowing the bees in??

I'd have thought it was a matter of size? If the entrance is 'bee size' would that be too small for hornets?
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I think the hornets can sit at the entrance and pick off the bees when they emerge.
I would get professional about it and contact a bee keepers club, or something like that. You need proper advice, not what I heard down the pub advice

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.
