  • Should I or shouldn't I?

Having a bit of a moral dilemma at the moment - finally got to the lottie the otherday (clay soil and too much rain) and got a bee in my bonnet about the neighbouring allotment.

Basically when we got ours 4 years ago the allotment was run by an old man who literally cried with joy when we moved in as the previous lads had let their rabbits run wild. Sadly he died 2 years ago and the allotment was taken over by the son, the son though does nothing other than grow and sell bedding plants from the large greenhouse, the rest of the allotment has been left to wrack and ruin. I had a go at him last year about it and was told that he planned on tackling it - there has been no movement at all.

Have said to OH that I am going to ring council but he says I am being a COW! It just annoys me that he is wasting good space that someone could be using. (The fact that he perves on me and makes me feel uncomfortable is also a factor!)

So advice needed am I a cow or am I right to make the call to the council and tackle it.....

I too would grass him up, but you must be prepared for the comeback: he will know who did it

I didn't think you were allowed to sell produce from your allotment anyway ........Do you have an allotment committee who you can talk to ? Then they could perhaps arrange to do a site inspection and challenge him ....

There's a clampdown at the moment on misuse of allotments in Sheff, don't know about Barnsley (I know a few people who have had letters). There's loads of families who would LOVE to have the space.

Try to talk to the right person at the council - they're usually pretty accessible - and explain your concerns (you could just cite the state of the lottie rather than the selling of produce).

Given the waiting lists, it really shouldn't surprise your neighbour that tenants are expected to keep to the rules.

I would grass him up...end off, flipping toe rag. Sounds like he's extracting the urine as well so to speak. I would have thought that selling your produce was against the allotment rules anyway. I was always told that allotments were for personal use only. What area in Barnsley is your allotment sprocket?
