  • What's the first film you remember?

This occurred to me yesterday as we were watching mine with Miss EB.

Mine is "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" which I saw at the cinema with my dad at the grand old age of five. Strangely I still like Angela Lansbury and this being the first film I remember probably explains a few things.

What about other grapes? What is the first film you remember seeing either on TV or at the cinema? Has it left you with any very strong memories? Or strange character traits for that matter?

I think the first film I remember going to see was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This was first released in 1968 and I know that I was taken to one of the special openings and was bought a model 'Chitty' which was much played with. Sadly the car was broken as these are now worth a good deal of money. I sometimes wonder if this had any influence on my love of cars!

My mum took me to see ET when I was little (about 5 or 6 I think)

I was terrified and had nightmares for weeks where I would wake up screaming and crying that ET would "get" me. I thought he lived in the drawer of the large unit in our living room and would never open it in case he jumped at me.

To this day, I have never watched ET again, hate clips of it, hate the "look" of ET.

On a nicer note, I also remember mum taking us to see Jurassic Park, and my sister and I thought it was great and my mum spent the entire film with her hands over her eyes!

We saw The Sound of Music at our local cinema - I must have been quite young as I was terrified for some reason......

Me and a friend were 'newish teenagers' and decided to try and get in to see an x-rated film (over-18 for the youngsters) at our local flicks. We decided we'd go and see 'Midnight Cowboy' as we both liked westerns!

LOL! we were a bit naive in them days.

I think the first movie I ever saw in a cinema was 'Reach for the Sky' with Kenneth Moore, which probably dates me somewhat! As for films that have effected me in some way; Schindlers List (a very powerful film) Cry Freedom (which made me spit with anger at the injustice of it all) Driving Miss Daisy ( a really good feel-good film)
There are loads of others, too numerous to list.

Apparently the first film my Mum took me to "watch" was Snow White - she made a bit of a hoo-hah as she had to pay for me, even though I was on her lap! Bit like that my Mum...

As for the first film I remember, I don't.

My first cinema film I saw was Mary Poppins. I was staying with my aunty at the time and she took me and my cousin - we had a big bag of sweets each! TV films I love include Chicken Run (i am sad because can't have any down the allotment), and Driving Miss Daisy.
I am looking forward to the film about allotments, mentioned by Monty Don last Friday. i haven't been to the cinema since Calender Girls, thats a brill film too.

First film I saw at a cinema was Gremlins. I was eight, and it freaked me out. First film I ever remember seeing was Jaws, and for weeks afterwards I thought twice about going near water, or a plughole even.
