Don't quite get you point, but women did not universally have the vote until October 1928. For a few years before that women could vote IF: they were over the age of 30 in 1918, providing they were householders, married to a householder, or if they held a university degree.

Cuts the electoral roll down a bit. A pleb like me would have most certainly been excluded.

Being female I ALWAYS vote it general elections. Without the sufragettes efforts I may never have been allowed my democratic right.

I was making the point that it was the Liberals that gave women the vote the Tories merely extended the franchise if it had been up to the Tories women would not have got the vote till much later.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

The pound was once the trading currency of the world, because it was weight not monetary value as it's seen now even though it's still printed as sterling on all bank notes.

My point was that the Liberals gave a very few women a vote. The Conservative party was the party that actually gave all women, over 21, an equal right to vote. Sorry ducky but your argument just doesn't wash.

Actually - aren't both arguments right?

Please don't get personal and start calling people 'ducky' or we will have to close the thread....I'm presuming everyone is enjoying the banter?

What's wrong with ducky. It's a term of endearment like love or shug. There was certainly no offence intended on my part. You put your location as South Derbyshire, which is roughly Swad area. Surely you've heard the expression 'me owd duck'.

Lovely innit. And to think the world ended in Parliament yesterday.

Still, the sun comes up and on we trek.
