On a similar vane, I'm just in the process of reading the Wartime Kitchen & Garden book. In it is mention of regular broadcasts on the radio of 'the allotment show', all part of the Dig for Victory campaign.

I would sorely love to get a hold of some of those radio recordings!

Oh, yes - I'm with you there Snadge.

I have the TV programmes carefully saved - just the ticket when I'm in a nostalgic, make-do-and-mend sort of mood on wet weekends!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I would love a gardening channel but judging by the content of gardeners world over the last couple of years I don't think programme planners have a clue as to what the gardening public want in the way of programmes. I would prefer to see a rerun of some of the Percy Thrower and Geof Hamilton gardeners world. However was quite pleased with the Allen Titchmarsh programme last night especially the training of fruit trees.

Echo that along with some Geoff Smith.

Edit: can't forget Jack Hargreaves, not quite gardening but I have all the "out of Town" series on DVD - love it.

Enjoyed Geof Smith in the early years but lost a bit of interest when he started his trips to obscure places looking for a particular plant. What about Arthur Billet??

I just want to see programmes with people mucking around in real gardens, not mincing around stately homes pontificating about statues and 'focal points'.

One of my favourite shows from yesteryear was with Roy Lancaster and Carol Klein (forget the name but it was Channel 4). It was mainly about flowering plants, but so interesting!
