  • bobbins...

My neighbour called in yesterday having noticed our geese had gone from the field. Did we have a spare one he could have for his Xmas Dinner- in exchange for some of his pork???

Several hours later my freezer now hosts chops, hocks, sausages, piece of roast, belly pork ....and lung

..rather pleased with the exchange to be honest as meat is soooo expensive here.

Think the neighbour must have had his eye on one of them for a while!!!

I KNOWWWWW....that was my thoughts exactly!

...think I'd have rather had the oink!

...apparently it's yummy in a stew!

I've only ever cooked it once before- boiled in a pan for MIL's dog years and years ago ..it puffed up and took the lid off the pan which ended up looking like some grotesque souffle....eewwww....

has anyone else eaten it????...and how on earth was it cooked???

Well done Nicos - bartering is alive and well, and I'm all for it!

I expect goggle will give you some recipes for the pukey-sounding bits.

bobbins is and old term ( probably Northern) meaning exchanging goods rather than selling them and having to declare it as income.

Clearly that's not what we did..ours was purely a friendly exchange!

Wonder if the local turkey farm would accept a lace shawl in exchange for a bird for the midwinter feast

Isn't lung what used to be called 'lights'? (As in I'll punch out yer lights?) It used to be obtained from butchers to feed me gran's dog!
