I have a Sony Reader, the touch screen version. As I understand it, with The Kindle you're limited to buying books from Amazon, but with the Reader, you can buy them from anywhere (WH Smiths, Waterstones, even Tesco).

Whichever, yes i love it. Occasionally though, you can't download the books you want. But then, you can go back to the old fashioned version.

And it never gets heavier, no matter how "big" the books you download!

I have the Kindle app. on my mobile, and the software on the PC. I really like it, but can't justify the cost of the 'proper' one at the moment.
I've got lots of my course books on my phone (PDF versions), and the set books were all free because they're 'classics', and that's really handy if I'm waiting around somewhere like the hospital etc. I still love 'actual' books, but am definitely running out of house-room for any more....

Anybody know of a fix? Our livebox just doesnt recognise the Kindle or that might be vice versa!
I think it might be because you are using Amazon.co.uk. I can only use mine here with Amazon.com - not sure it is that but, worth a try.
I think the book choice is a bit different with .com but, at least you wouldn't have to go to UK every time you want to buy a book.

Have you looked on the kindle forum on Amazon? I'm sure there was a thread about kindles in France. It's at the bottom of the page that's headed Buy a Kindle. (Under Discussion)

My brother has one which I have borrowed and I hated it. I understand that it's good for putting lots of books in one place but it just doesn't feel right, I like the feeling of a proper book but then again I don't like gadgets so they're not my thing. Would only be tempted if I were doing a lot of travelling but as that's not likely will stick to buying cheap / second hand, libraries and borrowing off friends

Worth bearing in mind that it look me ages to get the hang of CDs after vinyl and have never downloaded in my life, prefer real, not virtual things.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Well I could borrow the OH's laptop if I so desired, but she may not be too happy at me spilling hot chocolate on it!

No seriously, I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about, but I'm still undecided as to whether I want to add it to my Crimbo list?

Maybe I should 'lease' one for a couple of months!

I think I have the app on my phone (Android), but I've never used it yet. They tested them on The Gadget Show fairly recently - compared the top three: Kindle/Sony/Something Else.

Can't remember which came out top.

So do I - and its really light and balances well in one hand. The bit you click to turn the page can be done with the same hand so you can hold your cuppa in the other!

I think they are a great idea, would love one.

I take six books to read on my hols, so great for less baggage.
