I'm one of those saddos that likes proper books. I also like CDs too, although I store music on my Poota, I still like to physically have the disc. I can see the benefit of having one for holidays, as, like Liza, I take several books with me, and spare batteries or a charger would take up far less room.
As for reading in bed - Nah! I read in the bath. I won't have a telly in the bedroom either. Bedroom is for sleep, and ... erm... stuff...All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yes, very clear in sun. You can't, though, read them in the dark. People assume they are back-lit but they aren't. However, neither is paper!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Kindle - yes? No?
I've always loved techie toys, since the first mobile brick - but with these babies (Kindle) I'm struggling. I love hard (or paperback) books, I love the feel of them, the smell, opening a fresh page, reading the back cover then opening to the intro.
Snowdrop says 'fancy a Kindle' - I thought my luck was in for a moment
What he meant was 'can I have a Kindle for my birthday?'
Anyone got one? Any thoughts, advice much appreciated.
Myself will most likely be sticking to the hard stuff
*Mods, feel free to merge me if this has already been done, I get dizzy trying to find same themesaka

I love my kindle, the ease of use, the lightness and the fact that I can have all my books with me at any time. Don't mss the touchy/feely/smellyness of a paperback at all. And comparing the weight of the hardback version of book 13 of the Wheel of Time series against a kindle then there isn't any competition.

I'm not much of a book reader really so I don't have a thing about new books re touch, smell etc. but I do have a Kindle (bought for me by DD)
The thing I can say in its favour is, as TEB said, that you can carry a lot of books around at the same time which is great for holidays. It is easy to use, you can read it outside in direct sunlight where sometimes white paper reflects the sun back at you. True, you can't take it into the bath with you but I don't have a bath so, no probs there As I said in the other thread, you can make the font bigger or smaller which has been brilliant for my, slightly sight impaired, mum (who also has one)
