      Here's food for thought:

Basic Kindle on Amazon = £109
Recent(ish) paperback book from charity shop = 50p

That means I would have to buy 218 books to equal the value of the kindle.

and I have to ask the question - what would I do with all my current book stock?

Be good if there was a way to scan them onto the Kindle

I like that I don't have to make room for them on already bursting shelves. I like - now I've had to go and read a Tree Book for our book club - one I bought before I got the kindle - that I can hold it in one hand (if I try it with the tree book it won't stay open and I can turn the pages as easily.
You can put it in a zip top baggie and read it in the bath - lots do!

Remember my stint of yomping with a ruck-sack filled with books to the equivalent to the weight I have lost (yes I still do it)?

Yes you can read in full sun but not the dark. i love mine, can curl up in bed and no awkward positions !!!!! in trying to page turn. Miss the feel and smell of a book but I'm gaining house space and that has to be a bonus. I decide I want a particular book and its with me in minutes, no paying for postage or parking/buses. I will still buy my gardening books in "book form"

Like Piskie, I have so many books already, that I will want to read again and again, and also, how much do books cost to put on the thing?

Books can cost lots or nowt. Depends what you want to read. I've got loads of free ones - lots of classics etc, from Project Guttenberg. From Amazon, mostly they are below the paperback price. Plenty of good ones free or from £2 - £3 which is disposable magazine price really. One or two publishers have just started pricing ebooks above hardback prices - it's a cartel and I doubt its legality but people vote with their feet. If I absolutely HAVE to read Stephen Fry's latest autobiog (though I'd rahter have teeth pulled!) I would order it from the library on principle.

The only reason I would consider it would be for holiday convenience (although if I got given one, I doubt it would be restricted to that use), and for that I want action fiction, of which I have lots already, so what am I supposed to do with all my books (estimated 2000)?

I will keep the books I own. I can't see any reason for re-buying in ebook form. But for the future, unless it's a cookery, gardening or quilting book, I shall get ebooks rather than tree books.

I reckon e-readers are like marmite. You love them or hate them. I love them both!

I love my Reader too. The downside is when I tell someone about a really great book I read, I can't offer to lend it to them and I feel bad
