  • Computer webcam troubles

    Heeeellpppp.

Trying to speak to my grandkids on Skype. Voice works perfectly, but my webcam isnt working. Its the first time I've attempted to use it since I bought the computer (integral webcam).
It looks like an untuned telly, horizontal stripes, nothing more or less, that move up and down the screen slightly.
Any ideas on what I can do please?

I know this will be difficult for you to answer but have you looked in the manual?

I use Skype without the webcam - it works better!

      Sorry, no help at all!

And therein lies the rub Shirl.
I cannot buy anything that just works properly, as it should.
So, I buy this laptop, and although I know it wont work properly, I bring it into work, without the manuals. They are at home in France, and I am at work in Africa.
Tiresome in the extreme, more so as I KNEW that there would be some form of problem with it.

It should have 'built-in' manual/problem solver thing in the program. Try settings, or troubleshooting, or sommat. (Sorry, haven't used windoze for a few months and can't remember how! )

You could always Google for a solution *ducks* :P
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

This may be of help i live in a very rural 3 miles from exchange so do not have a very strong connection .
I have 5 contacts on skype that all use web cams i do not but when talking to me they switch there web cams of because the web cam takes up to much of the band width it may be a cure but it works here ..jacob

Thanks Jacob, I did wonder if the problem was bandwidth related so I just tried to run the webcam when not online, and its exactly the same problem.

This might be worth a try, this is for a usb plug in cam,
                      Skype Setup:
                      After downloading and installing Skypehttp://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/

                      set it up as follows:
Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
Then click on the Video Settings.
The camera, if Installed Properly, it will come up and show a video picture.
Then, on the bottom of the page click save.
The camera and audio should function properly.

Hi Bishop, its an integral cam but I followed the instructions as close as possible.
Same thing, just looks like a moving deckchair, very frustrating.
                        Thanks for the help though.

Have just open Skype & like bishop said, if you go into tools then options then video settings, it "should" show yourself if the camera is setup.

The camera starts no problems, the little blue light in the lid appears followed by the screen, but its just showing horizontal coloured lines.
I've tried all the set up business I can find with my very limited computer knowledge.
                              Proper frustrating.
