  • Hello everyone

Just want to say hi, thought it was only right after reading your posts this past week.
I'm new to this whole thing, after getting my allotment on an impulse last month! (Been mulling it over for a while, waiting for the 'right time' lol) So I've got 125 square metres of Bramble and Nettles, and not a clue of where to start or what to grow lol. But the past few weeks surfing have led me here, and along the way I've picked up loads of info' and a whole heap more enthusiasm. I know I've got lots to learn, but I'm really excited about it all!

Hi Chiana welcome to the vine - as you have found out you are in a good place for good information, always somebody on here to answer any questions. Only got my allotment last june, if you enjoy it half as much as I do you will love it. What do you plan to grow?
    Happy gardening

Welcome to the vine, Chiana! It's our first year with a half plot too - it's very exciting! Any questions you have or comments, feel free to post - I promise you that nothing you ask will be too wierd (or too dumb!) for our clever bunch of grapes here!

Once you've got your plot cleared (suggest bit at a time!) what are you planning to grow?

        Thanks for the welcome.
My list seems to get bigger every day, but I'm trying to keep it simple (I hope) for now, and also it depends on how I progress at the plot. First I must grow Cucumbers as my 7 year old has a 'thing' for them. Carrots and Tomatoes are a favourite of all of us. Then there's Beetroot, Beans, Spinach, Marrow and Sweetcorn. Would love to do some Potatoes if I can get the ground sorted out in time. Herbs too. Oh, and I have to admit to having bought some Squash seeds as soon as I got the plot, lol, love Squash! Think there's more, but that's what springs to mind right now.

Hi Chiana & welcome, hope you enjoy your new plot & your visits to the 'vine'. As everyone will tell you, the secret is to do a little at a time & don't get downhearted it'll be worth it in the end!

Welcome to the vine, I like many others only started last year.

I reclaimed a it of land from brambles, couch grass and all the usual nasties.

Just take it one step at a time and get the potatoes in the will help clear some weeds and give you some hope!!

Anything you want to know just ask.

              Happy growing, Mandy

Hello Chianna and welcome to the Vine!

You are obviously in the right place here for allotment and veg advice. A great place to learn and ask as many questions as you need. Sounds like you have got the bug already.

                            Chiana - welcome.

Like your ideas around planting things that your child will like - their delight will re-energise you as well. Kids love squashes and there are some really weird ones. I'm trying purple and white ones.

My plot is new to me as well so it's a very exciting time.
