Quite common in the States where loads of dachshunds use them as they are prone to slipped discs.

ooooooh, there's an argument against inbreeding right there.

But anyhoo, it's a great contraption. The chap says the vet would've put the dog down, so he built him a wheelchair instead

I bought it after my crash last year (driver ran me over, there were 'no witnesses' )

I had a very elderly Shetland Sheepgog when my youngest child was still in a pushchair. She hated being left at home when we went for walks (dog not child!) so I bought a twin pushchair, child in one seat, dog in the other. I got some very funny looks but we were all happy.

I think it's a great idea if the dog is still fit & happy, it means they can still get out & enjoy life. There's an older lady around here who has two little jack russell type dogs & she has one of them in a pushchair when she goes out for a walk, it's great because the two dogs get out & she gets exercise & is able to lean on the trolley herself for support.

i think it depends on the dog. if it was very old and so infirm it could hardly walk, i would end it's time with me here on earth. if it was a younger dog, i would expect it to be able to manage on three legs reasonably well, but in my experience- a life of living and working with dogs and horses, once the backend goes, for whatever reason, it is time to let go, while the dog still has some enjoyment of life, and dignity.

if the elderly dog could sniff around a bit and walk about at the end of a walk in a pushchair, i would maybe do that for a short while, but ultimately, i would not keep him/her alive to make myself feel better, but would have the vet come to our house, to make the passing go as tranquilly as possible. there is always another dog who is in need of a good home, and i feel that the best way to honour an old friend is to give another animal a safe loving home, in it's turn. i hope someone does the same for me at the end of my time!!.

I've seen something similar in action whilst in Strachur. Wee old lady with wee old dog, dog's rear end is in a contraption that looked like half a pram. The dog could really shift.
