We already have quite a few fruit trees and we are only there in the summer so I want something I can put in in May and harvest in Sept. Have been thinking about wheat although we would have to do all the work by hand?!?

I would love one but we 300m above sea level -15 in the winter so the trees would not survive. We do have one in a pot but have to bring it in in the winter and wrap it in fleece.

Italian neighbours have a lot of wild flower meadows (which look very pretty) as most are elderly and their sons have moved away to towns as there is no money in farming and it is a hard life. Some grow wheat to sell on or hay for the animals they keep.

We already have goats and next year 1 sheep to fatten then for the pot before we leave.
The field in question is not fenced in so not possible to have animals on it. We need to feed ourselves somehow from it.
