Everyone Has A Book Inside Them?

Personally, I only ever get close enough to a tv remote control or a 'Puter keyboard when my man Trousers isn't 'at it' himself, and there's no wonder Children that I spend so much of my time in my gorgeous garden, or my gorgeous kitchen, and I got to thinking about the book that I'm going to write one day, which hugely excites me on a daily basis.

And then I got to thinking that all of us, allegedly, have a book inside us, and I wondered what the rest of you would write about, given half a chance?

I don't know if I could actually write a book now, my imagination has been seriously squashed of late. When I was young I used to come up with interesting ideas for stories but I don't know that I could actually make up anything with a 'hook' that would hold peeps for a whole book now.

Mine would be a non fiction book about making good use of your plot in a British winter. Haven't quite cracked the technique yet though so at the moment its still fiction!

I would start with a ....oh hang on, I can't release the plot until it's published

Last winter I did just that! It is set in France and is about certain types of people that move here, and how their lives intertwine. It is a lighthearted holiday read.

Most of the people who have read the maunscrpt liked it and even some of the publishers that I have sent it to, also quite liked it.

However, the offer to publish it was not so forthcoming. So one day I will give it a little more fine tuning and try again.

Can I just say for anyone thinking of writing a book, the golden rule is to write what you know about, and that it is amazing how your mind goes into overdrive once you start building the plot.

Mine has been on the burner for over 4 years. Sometimes I get real bursts of enthusiasm and write pages and pages for days at a time, but then I wont touch it for months.
I do think there is a book in everyone, we are all identical in that we are all unique, so we all have something different to say.

Yes, everyone has at least one book in them, and you should write it no matter what.
However, getting it published is quite another thing, so don't hold you breath. Its best to join an on-line writers group and start off by writing short stories and poems and getting feed back from others while you develop your own style of writing. When you feel you are ready for publication you can self publish on sites like Amazon, but beware of Vanity publishers who just want your money.
Its a great feeling to see you words in print and your name in the 'By' line under the title, so you must keep on trying. The golden rule is, write about what you know.

I write too, but not often.
I wrote a whole novel back end of the 90's. Sent it to various publishers but had no interest at all....turned it into a screen play for the now defunct i think orange new screenwriters prize, got some positive feed back but that was all....re-wrote it and then gave up. Have started a couple more but they always run into the buffers after a while...won a short story competition once...

I definitely have a book in me but I'll have to wait a bit before I write it - too many of the main characters are still alive

I wrote one in Primary School - no idea what happened to it. I read loads, mainly crime fiction, but plenty of other literature too. I've always said I'll do it one day, and a few years ago, my Sister gave me a subject/plot idea, but I got so bored with it, that I gave up and deleted it. Perhaps, if I plan it out properly (start/middle/end), one day, I will actually do it.

All those that have already written and completed a book, why not self-publish? I understand its much more easy these days.

Mine would be 'Tobacco & Diesel' as that was apparently why my phone wasn't working!

Mine would have to be about the last place I worked at. It would be factual, but no-one would believe it - it would probably read like a Carry On script.

Wellie , I think you need to go for it with the book ........we may all have a book inside of us but whether we could make it interesting for others to read is a totally different matter , reading your blogs I think that you have it sussed .

I too have written 2 novels, plus one uncompleted, several plays, a few of which have been performed (by amateur groups) and quite a lot of poetry.

I have never succeeded in getting anything more than a little positive feedback. I've thought of setting up a site and 'publishing' online, for free to anyone who might access the site, whether by accident or design.

An important point (IMO) is that if you write - you're a writer. Even if no one ever publishes your work, or even if no one reads it, you're still a writer.
