I don't(never have) watch either.
What I can't stand is all the hype and carp that is generated by he press.
You would think these so call "stars" were important.
Both are only second rate entertainment programmes.
Bread & circuses.

Do you know I used to think just like you...and to an extent still do...BUT...having to sit and watch Xfactor with the kiddies there actually are some bladdy good singers on there.
I don't necessarily agree with all the hype etc,but some of these people have either never been in the right place at the right time or simply not had the oomph to get there...if they're talented does it really matter whether they get noticed on the circuit or on some naff TV talent show?
Rebecca is absolutely amazing(imho)and I could easily listen to a CD from her...the other two are far too gimmicky yet with the pretense of being quirky for me...quirky stopped being original quite some time ago(it reminds me of my art student days)


Am pretty excited that the Z listers will soon be eating jungle grubs!

I watch both. The kids started me watching XFactor and I really enjoy it now.

And thank goodness the 2 tv companies seem to have got their acts together and dont overlap this year. Previous years I have had to miss part of one or the other.

Have never watched X-Factor. One night we were waiting for Merlin to come on and switched the TV on too early and saw Anne Widdecome (sp?), she's a game old bird. Now every Saturday we have to watch Anne Widdecome, not the rest of the contestants as some of them have paid too many visits to the plastic surgeon and look scarey

i am happy to admit that sat. and sunday night is my tv unwind session. so when i come in on saterday afternoon, i invariably tune in to 'come dine with me' (which is ussually repeats, but as i never get to watch the whole session, it doesn't really matter to me) and then i watch antiques roadshow or countryfile, to the point that it over-laps anything like dancing on ice, strictly, x-factor, or brit's got talent. i do nothing else except cook dinner, doing each stage of prep. while the adverts are on.

i too like x factor auditions before they choose the finalists, and i always like the finalists a lot more before they get madeover and helped by the experts. for instance aiden, and rebecca. i thought they were really good in the auditions, but their mentors have got them singing everything exactly the same, espec. aiden, so that the entire song sounds a bit repetative.

but in the main i do love these programs- it's total switch off time for me, and it helps the contestants to get exposure, which has to be a good thing.

I almost never watch T.V. but am a captive audience on Saturday nights and find I love the elegance of Come Dancing(Ann Widdecombe makes me hoot with laughter!) and have become a reluctant fan of The X Factor. Some superb acts but, unfortunately the same old puerile comments from the judges. Anyway, my Saturday night job has finished now so will probably never watch again.

Always and always watch strictly. From the first year it started I loved it.
As for the X factor, well at this stage we record it and just run through the boring bits (which is usually three quarters of the programme) Think at this stage its well past its sell by date.

snadger - i know what you mean- i feel the same way about eastenders, corrie, big brother, apprentice etc. but when i relax on saterday night, i want total escapism, and some glitter with it if available. ( mind you - i struggled through x- factor last night- a lot of screeching and off key too!)
