Thinking caps on: school fair

Right, I've been put on the PTA, and first task is organising the school Xmas fair.

I need ideas for "activity" stalls, esp for the older children (age 9/10) (sales and cakes etc are done).

I've thought of:

- print your own design on a bag (£2 a go, bags are 60p ea)
- buy a seed pack for 50p and fill it with Two_Sheds bean seeds
- make a birdfeeder (monkeys nuts on a string) 20p a go
- knit a scarf (pay 10p for a minute's knitting/crochet, adding rows onto what I've done already). The finished scarf will be worn by the Head for a week
- nail bar 10p a nail for a Xmas sticker & topcoat


any more ideas, you PTA-ers?

Why dont you ask the older children ( year 6 ) what games they would like to run, its what we used to do, but in the summer. They are in control of the game / activity, you have to watch them with the money side but on the whole they enjoy it.
Too late for this year and you might already do it, is design a christmas card and the winner from each year have theirs printed and sold to parents in packs.
Also the kids used to make decorations to be hung up in the school hall for a couple of weeks and prizes for the best in each year, including an adult section.

OMG flashback .......party game when I was a kid, you made like a sandcastle out of flour and put a ring on top , everyone took turns cutting a piece away until the ring fell in . Then the last one to cut the flour had to pick up the ring with their teeth, no hands.

How about putting stuff in covered pots , they put their hand in and have to guess what's in there.

A 'can you tell the difference?' stall

blindfold sampling of say Cadbury's choc and Galaxy choc
pepsi and coke
Heinz beans and a well known value one
2 different makes of jelly
^^^^ digestive biscuits
^^^^ cornflakes
full fat milk, semi skimmed
low fat marg, butter
etc etc

( good one for parents!!! )

Tombola with family size chocolate bars or selection box for the winners only tickets that end in no. 5 win, £1 per go makes a profit. especially if you can get the parents to donate the prizes.

lucky dip- a big box filled with kinder type eggs with small toys inside(can buy 100 for around £12 from online suppliers) in two or three eggs put a raffle ticket for a special prize ( teddy,toy etc) that way every one is a winner....great for the smaller kids

beat the santa- three shots at taking penalties with santa suited volunteer in goals..

having our PTA christmas fayre on 27th nov will update you as to what proves to be the most successful..

if you can get each class to donate goodies then a parent gift room is a good idea where the kids can pay to enter and pick a present and have it wrapped for mum or dads christmas present.. room for kids only with no parents alllowed!

wet sponges at the teachers

bottles on strings ........ you get loads of bottles like wine, bubble bath, bath salts, etc etc .... tie strings to them, then put all the strings over a pole, and make them into a bunch .... also add strings with nothing on, they then pull the string and sometimes they win sometimes they dont

Possibly a bit late but we have a civvies day and ask the children to bring in chocolate or toileteries,'Friends' then get the wonderful task of assembling it all into hampers which are raffled off at the Christmas Bring and Buy.

Thanks Di, we do that too.
We've just had "Victorian dress up day" and this Friday is "dress up all spotty" day.

Parents get a bit fed up with it, tbh.

Thats cos dress up days are a nightmare for Mums, especially if you work. Posh mums round here hire the kids outfits!

They don't mind the dressing up (although some don't have any imagination: if they can't buy the outfit in Asda, the kid doesn't get an outfit )

It's the 50p they have to pay for non-uniform days that they hate
