  • Letter to my Parents

Just thought I'd post this for the amusement and general 'Awwwww' factor.

My mum sent me this last night. It's a letter my sister and I wrote to our parents over 20 years ago...

Apparantly, the multiple choice tickboxes were a common sight on our letters... a dishcloth was the family term for a small, hairy dog.... we only got a dog about 6 years later

LOL that made me laugh. In our house, it was "Mum, can you get the dogs off the Sofa, I wanna sit down!"

sweet, but did she really threaten to buy you a dishcloth, or is that a code word for a type of dog?

That's lovely and it's made me feel better - I thought I was the only one who kept things like that!

Going through Mum's stuff, my siblings and I found a big box of cassette tapes one of which was a recording we made of Christmas Dinner cc 1970. I remember the cassette player/recorder was our "Big" family present and we just left it recording during the meal.
Was so strange to hear my parents sounding so young and vigourous and my brother and sisters and I sounding SO young but still strangely recognisable! Lovely audio memory.

Thanks for that Creemteez, I've just remembered I've a Dansette in the loft with the recording of my children aged around 6, 3 and 2 singing carols. They are now 38, 34 and 33. Would be lovely to play to them and their children at Christmas.

Oh wow, Flo, I'm tearing up at the thought! There is something about Christmas Carols sung by very young children that just tips me right over the edge!

What's also scarey is that I think I'm on there singing along with them! Every time I see Oliver I see my middle boy (34) aged 9 singing "Where is Love" on the stage at school. Gets to me every time and to make matters worse, he usually rings me and says "You watching it and crying mum?"

Bet he's doing exactly the same! Some songs just "Getcha", don't they!
