Postal Scam

The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel
Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and
that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize .

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail
Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

On the subject of scams, but a more modest one, when you pay for anything with a card (eg supermarket) check the receipt before you move away.
I have heard a few tales about cashiers who ring up a 'cashback' which the customer has NOT requested, and then if the customer DOES notice, they will claim that the till is faulty, if the customer does NOT notice, they keep the money.....

Working for a large supermarket company I cant see how they can do that, we have camera's on us and get searched regulary, especially those that work on tills like me.
But then there are those who will stoop so low.

The scam WAS a real one, but it got dealt with some time ago. I wouldn't like to guarantee that there won't be some bright spark ressurect it.....

It was, but it wasn't £315, it was £15 and the company got closed down, as would happen again.

I sort of assumed the £315 was a typo that got allowed to persist because it made a good story. the 3 and the £ are on the same key on my keyboard.

There has been plenty of scam warnings about huge phone bills that can be run up. As someone who has worked in Telecoms for some time, I've always known it was impossible to do. (Well almost impossible, nothings really impossible, but it takes alot more work than a simple premium rate phone number to ring.)
