Snowed in, ugh ... We were going down to Edinburgh from Inverness-shire on Sunday night and got stuck at Perth - all roads out of Perth except the one going north we'd just been on were closed. Had to get a B&B for the night and we were pretty lucky to get a room as the whole city was stowed out with stuck people!

When we eventually made it back to Edinburgh yesterday afternoon we had to abandon the car round the corner as our part of the street is completely impassable. Car is still dumped round the corner, as are several more!

All Edinburgh, Lothian and Fife schools are shut today as well as yesterday, so at least it means a couple of days holiday for me, looking after the wee lad. Even though we can't go anywhere ..!

I see all these pictures of the lovely snow (given that it causes lots of problems for some people) and I get upset, cos here on the Isle of Wight we aint got none (yet)! It's been tryin for a while, but nothing significant. I know I'm nearly 62, but I love snow!!!

Zebedee, believe me, if you'd been brought up in Inverness-shire as I was, you'd have had your fill of snow. Yes, being off school a lot in the winter was good fun but the novelty wore off when the pesky snow stopped you getting places you wanted to go, and meant that you were cold and wet too often.

And I had a ton of snow slide off the roof of my house today right onto my cabbages-in-pots. The weight of the snow has damaged them, hopefully not irreversibly, but I HATE SNOW!!

all the local schools are closed and i was over 1 hour late for work this morning but it is all worth it to see my three kids in the front garden having a snowball fight whilst i sit in the warm with a plate of the OH's homemade veg soup.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand
            .

We got off light today. Been snowing / sleeting all day with a horrible cold wind but it hasn't settled. Mind you we're right on the coast - not sure what it's like inland.

Cumbernauld on Friday Night / Saturday morning . Had to evacuate the warehouse due to a gass alarm and stand outside in the snow for 2 hours.

I'm sure you do anyway but drive safely Beefy!

I grew up on a farm in the Yorkshire Dales in the 70s and it seemed we were often snowed in. I think my most dramatic memory is when a friend's dad (a shepherd) went missing for two days out on the snowy hills. All sorts of rescue missions were launched but he was eventually found by his own dog, luckily still alive!

My Grandad had a few stories about the winter of '47, including having to tunnel in (and out) of a neighbour's house to get a coffin to chapel for a funeral
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Just so long as we don't get iced in tomorrow evening. Bad snow isn't common around here (and so far we've had ½inch, mostly gone), but this road can get slippery and it doesn't take much to be unable to get cars out of the end. We are due for a day in Cherbourg Friday, overnight ferry....
