As well as an airer by the radiator in the spare bedroom I hang two whirligig things sold by caravan supply shops on the curtain rail above said radiator and use it for smalls. Towels are a problem, though. They can smell of mildew if they don't dry quickly enough so I hang them out for several hours if at all possible. Mind you, we don't have much daylight here at the moment - 8.30am to 4.00pm, and that will get worse before it gets better! Roll on the solstice!

On the line whenever possible even if they do freeze they dry a bit. After that they go on the Pulley above the wood burner over night and they are dry in the morning.

If it is raining I don't wash unless forced to by lack of clothes then only 'selective washing' ie that which dries quickly. That is started off in the Cow shed and finished off as before.

I find an hour or two on the line outside makes all the difference to freshness. Also it all seems to dry quicker indoors on a clothes horse or hangers on the shower rail if it has been pegged on the line for a blow.
Otherwise it is radiators, clothes horse, bannister handrail, shower rail - anywhere I can find. If it is raining I like to shake my wet sheets out in the stairwell drape them flat over the handrail, that means I can fold them straight and don't need to worry about wrinkling.

I remember a time my Mum hung sheets out to dry and they froze, came in stiff enough to stand up in tent-shapes. They did dry quite quickly once defrosted, that would have been on the airer hanging from the kitchen ceiling. Must get some suitable bits of wood so I can put up the one I bought for Spain (I've got the metal ends and the pulleys)!
