?! 'One carton of milk' lasts four kids one meal (and I can forget about a coffee). It's all relative!

I can't believe one carton stretches to four in your house....DS is a total guts at brekkie and a pint is only just enough

I'm not very good at panic buying,but have rarely got to the shop and found empty shelves.I did buy a couple of pints of milk today just in case the Milkie can't get to us tomorrow and an extra bottle of wine for warmth.

I went out to get Chook and Horse feed today. Remembered to get Diesel before the light came on, which was a bonus. But I forgot to get Tonic!

Don't suppose it'll do me any harm! LOL

I have never heard of diesel and tonic. Is it good for you? It can't taste that great!

It's probably the same so-and-so's who nick all the grit!

We live on a hill at a nasty crossroads. In winter the southbound road is a sheet of ice and vehicles just can't stop and slide straight into the junction. Thankfully we have a large grit bit on the corner and husband & I often go out with a shovel and chuck the salt mix over the road.

At dusk Saturday night the bin was three-quarters full, by 9.00am Sunday morning it was totally empty. Sadly that's normal for round here but Cumbria Highways are brilliant at re-filling it as often as they can.

It's normal to see someone coming and taking a bucketful to use at their own home but the entire contents ... miserable g*ts.

Sheffield is also very hilly, but this year as awell as the grit bin that gets raided by all and sundry, our council has got local volunteer snow wardens to keep them advised as to the state of the roads and grit bins. The lady next door to me is one and had a ton sack of grit delivered as well as them topping up the grit bin. She has worked hard with our help and kept our hill clear and gritted despite 2 foot of snow in 2 days.

I went weekly shopping on Monday evening and people were panic buying then. Trolleys stuffed high with bread, milk and beer. The absence of family products suggest to me that these are not families with young dependents, unless you count alcoholics...

A work colleague tried to buy milk on Wednesday (day after first heavy snowfall) and the supermarket was clean out of milk. Not exactly a rural store, as she lives in the centre of Horsham and the roads were well prepared there (unlike Surrey!!). She is understandably miffed.

Our local Co-Op was out of stuff on tuesday no milk, bread, meat, veg. The costcutter of the road has got everything!

In contrast, my local Tesco Express has not only got virtually full shelves but they're selling 2 x 2 litres of milk for £2. I got to the checkout with one and the guy practically ordered me to buy another one. This is despite it being in the middle of "Studentland".

I wonder if it's because the milk is produced fairly locally and perhaps they're having trouble moving it down south so are having to discount it to get rid of it.

BTW I will offer the "spare" to my elderly neighbour.

If we get desperate, Mr TS can have his prezzie early (a mixed case of ales, hidden under the junk in the garage)
Hopefully it'll thaw before we're forced to start on the Beetroot Wine

I went in to our nearest super?market this afternoon; plenty of veg (pre-packed), plenty of alcohol, sweets, eggs, Tins/Bottles/Packets/Jars of everything, except Meat, Bread and Milk. Just signs, apologizing for the lack of the delivery lorry. The daft thing was, what small amount of milk was left was on special offer; three for two. I didn't need three. Or two. So I bought the one that I did need, in case there were folk out there who did need the others....

All stocks full around here - but it's a blizzard outside Parked one of ours cars on the main road that gets gritted - no chance I'll bring it up the road and onto the drive. Bit annoyed, as no grit in the bins, and our road is really dangerous - double parked morons, and a hill with a bend in it.
