Static! Aaaarrrrrgggghhh!

The one thing that seriously bugs me about this cold frosty weather is STATIC!

I wear cotton under layers, and fleeces over the top. I'm not cold at all, I'm lovely and warm. But, when I take the bladdy fleeces off there's sparks, and crackling, and stinging zaps from the clothing. My hair goes all crazy and sticks up and out, so I look like the mad Professor.

Anyone have any antidotes?


And, NO! I'm not going to walk round with a static strip attached to my arris like everyone did with their Cars in the eighties! LOL

My warm 'n cosy fleecy indoor boots generate a nice static charge - so I spark on the lamps when I turn them off to go to bed and on Maisie's ears if I get too close to them!

I'm highly charged too! Constantly getting shocks off things and other people and my hair just does it's own thing this time of year. Haven't found anything that helps, although a certain pair of shoes make it worse at work, so I don't wear those at the moment.

The static strip is all that's been suggested to me, and NO I'm not doing it either

I thought fabric conditioner stopped this I dont get any shocks.

It's all down to your electrifying personality I did hear that running a metal clothes hanger over clothes removed static.........

Got a cat G4 ? if not- then get a kitty (guess dog would also work) ....
my poor lads are great for a discharge!!
Poor little loves, I reach my hand out to stroke kitty and ZAP right on the ear or worse the nose!! you can even hear the spark 'crack'

Apparently static leccy is worst when the air is too dry, which explains why I'm truly electric in the office (air conditioning) and struggle with those horrible steel handrails and door handles.

Soooo, the antidote is to increase moisture in the air. I guess the body moisturiser suggestion makes sense!

I agree with Jackie J. I use fabric conditioner and very rarely have static problems. One thing I have noticed is that if I put my fleeces, socks etc tin the tumble drier I can have static problems unless I put a sheet of Bounce (or in my case Lidl's own brand) in with the washing. I also have a pair of M&S trainers and when I wear them I get a belt whenever I touch the car

Unfortunately, I can't use fabric conditioner, due to my Eczema and Mr. G's Psoriasis. The Cat is not impressed with my 'zapping' her and has started growling at me!

I remember, years ago, frightening the daylights out of my Sister's Dog, when I stroked her. They had a synthetic lounge carpet, and were 'shoes off in the house' people at the time, so I walked across the carpet, in my socks, and 'zapped' the poor Dog, who howled and ran. She wouldn't come near me for the rest of the day!

Now that's a real bummer I've just had a look on Google and a couple of people are suggesting attaching a safety pin to the inside of the offending garment/s Worth a try?

I use fabric conditioner and it doesn't make any difference at all!!!

The meal coathanger thing works if you're wearing something which is clingy or spraying with hair spray - but none of it stops me zapping other people or even smacking them when my hand shoots out sideways if I inadvertently touch something metallic!

I dont use a tumble dryer, is the static worse when you have dried clothes in one ?
