Don't be Zaz, you are right, trouble is with it being on the same day the xmas presents usually cover that!

How about a day being pampered a health spa later in the new year.?

If you do a spa day - can you get one for her and her chum - there's nothing so dull as being on a fab sap day and nobody to share it with!

PS - or what about a this is your life book of photos. We did this for both of my parent's 60th Birthdays. We used Blurb, and got a hardback book full of photos from them as babies, growing up, teenagers, courting on another, getting married and then all of us girls coming along - it brought a tear to each of their eyes.

You see the problem with presents is that they're very individual as I'd hate most of the things that you would like, a poncey meal is just not my cup of tea and would find being taken to choose my pressie to be a total cop out - would much rather he chose something for me himself than didn't bother making the effort and expected me to find it myself. Often the best presents are the things that you would never buy yourself but would truely love and treasure - much easier said than done though and almost impossible to do if you don't know the person. Seeing as her birthday is already obscured by Christmas then maybe a small gift now with something planned for the summer when there is less going on and she can really appreciate it?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Since me and Mr Z have been together - we get each other a little something for the day but we usually go away for a holiday for actual presents. My 40th we spend a week in NYC, stayed at the Chelsea Hotel and went to my favourite restaurant for lunch before the flight back. Blooming marvelous.
