I used to have one, and it was wonderful.

It went missing during one of our house moves and I quite missed it for some time. Havent thought of it in years, but you have brought it all back to me now. I must keep a look out for one.

I'd never heard of such a thing until fairly recently, but never tried a UK stylee one.
It surely HAS to be worth making a rumtopf though doesnt it? If you have the jar? Especially with laydeez prepared to fight over it?

The Frenchies do a sort of similar thing, called "liquer de vieux garcons) and I can heartily attest to the fact that it works.
This years one is being brewed in my kitchen in a metre high Italian spaghetti jar, and it smells divine.

I don't have a rumtopf jar, but I've recently brought down from my loft, a old 2pt Denby pot with lid. As I'm not much of a drinker I was always put off by the idea of having to try and fill a whole rumtopf jar, but as soon I as saw the old fashioned Denby pot, I thought it looked the perfect size.

As far as I'm aware once you fill up the pot with fruit, sugar and booze, you place a plate on top to keep the fruit down and then cover with clingfilm, before putting the lid on.

So do you think my little Denby will do the job?
