I like Monty - but I hope they change the downmarket style.

I had stopped watching it, but I may give it another look when Monty is back. I expect Alys has moved on to other things, not much of a fan anyway.

I didn't like the programme much with Monty either, nothing against the guy but too much bleeding long border stuff! Have been recording it for the past few series and then watching the whole episode in 5 mins.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

im so pleased Monty will be coming back. i enjoyed episodes of GW a lot more when i watched old ones on the gardening channel (which is sadly no more!!). its not just the presenters tho, i find i get bored when they go on tours of stately homes' gardens. they need to focus a bit more on veg growing as well, not just have the odd few mins of it here and there.

              Okay, my thoughts:
Pro: I shall be glad to see Monty back at the helm.
Con: I really liked Toby as lead presenter, I think he was just starting to settle into his style and really 'demonstrate' what he was doing (like his pruning demos). I feel he is being blamed for the fall in ratings, when in fact it is probably the new format that is putting viewers off.
Con: Alys is leaving - I was beginning to warm to her.
Con: Carol is staying - I can't be doing with Carol I'm afraid.

              But thats just my opinion

Carol has been one of the best bits of the show of the past few years as at least she shows you how to do something practical (cuttings etc) rather than just throwing large amounts of money at things as a lot of the other projects seem to need.

I agree that it was the format that wasn't working, I'm not sure about Toby, but then he did have a lot to live up to. I quite like Ays and I love Carol too. Guess we're just a fussy lot, Huh!?

I might start watching GW again (I like Monty Don) unless it clashes with Beechgrove Gardens cause Jim McColl is the best.

I've been watching BG for a number of years, it hasn't yet

Totally agree - I really like Toby and whist it would be a downwards move for him I'd love to see him stay on the team. But then I like Joe to and there isn't enough for all of them.

Hey - an idea! Give Toby his own show, say, midweek - different format to GW & BG

Wonder what they're going to do with the garden - it's only 2 years old. Can I 'baggsie' the greenhouse? (Monty is going to do the show from his own garden)...

I like Toby's style. He is enthusiastic and good at explaining stuff, though I do understand he may come across as patronising to gardeners who have been at it for 30 years.

I did not watch the show when Monty was on, but you all seem very keen on him. I'll give him a go.

I can't understand why they've kept the awful Joe but got rid of Alys!!!? I hate it when Joe bangs on about garden design- I hate the 'deign rules'! Alys is a sweetheart, but I can't see her getting another show after the debacle of 'The Edible Garden'.

To be honest, I don't care who hosts it as long as I pick up some tips and they keep the slots by the 'look at me, I'm a millionaire and I've got a 1,000 acre garden' to a minimum.
