  • Exploding oven

The Friday before we left for Centre Parcs, LadyWayne and I decided to just cook something from the freezer as we'd run the fridge down in readiness for CP.

So, Fish fingers, chips and peas it was.

Put the peas in a pan and filled with water, turned the oven up to full whack and put some chips and fish fingers on trays. Oven got to temperature and I slid the chips in.

Went into the lounge to sit and watch some rubbish on the tellybox.

10-15 minutes later I hear a bang, following but a scattering sound on the floor. First thought was a snowball, but then realised that there is no way it could have been. I then thought it was the peas, but on walking into the kitchen I soon discovered this wasn't the case either.

Then I looked at the oven!

    I believe the phrase is O. M. G.

Luckily, nobody was in the kitchen at the time, and Bean was tucked up in bed.

Outer glass stayed intact, but the inner glass has completely shattered and quite a bit spilled out from the bottom of the oven door (high level built in oven).

We're glad that nobody was hurt, and that it happened now and not on Christmas morning.

New Bosch oven (outgoing one was a Stoves Newhome) being delivered/installed next Wednesday.

        That's terrible!
The glass hob that we inherited spontaneously cracked, all by itself. It's not good is it?

Thats awful!! Is it a fault in the glass door or something you could complain to the makers about?

Reminds me of cookery lessons in school, each kitchen had either a gas or an electric oven, we moved around each kitchen on a regular basis to get used to the varying cookers. When in the black kitchen tea was made for the staff break, I lit the oven for whatever we were cooking or thought I did, Headmistress took the kettle off the top and the oven door blew open ( drop down door ) schorched her skirt whoops.
Glad no one was hurt and good luck with the new cooker.

Oh gosh that sounds really frightening. I am glad no one was hurt! I hope the new oven is much better and you are right, better now than christmas. I just hope you can get the hideous new oven smells out of the new oven before christmas.

Yeah that's terrible and such a shock when so unexpected.

Mind you, are you sure the oven didn't just throw a strop at having to heat up such a dreadful meal?

Similar thing happened here when eldest was cooking lunch one Mothers day. It was the outer door as he opened the oven, glass everywhere! Thankfully the lad didnt have a scratch on him!
