There I was in the almost dark, it was snowing and I got all the parsnips from the back garden. Then I trundled round to the wastleland bit I pinched for my leeks at the front of the house.
Pulled them all up and on the final one, slipped, fell backwards and landed on my bum quite spectacularly in the middle of the rest of them, squashing a load flat!

Had to change all my clothes as was covered in wet mud, and am told half past 3 is too early for pjs (OH tells me this as he is still working upstairs), and then the children me they won't be eating either parsnips or leeks.....

Now wondering why I bothered!

Also wondering how many neighbours saw me fly!

Hopefully only my pride is hurt, luckily I'm well padded on the derriere so should be bruise free!

Well it was worth it, garden is under snow today and ground like a stone... good call to dig them up!

Although I actually had to parboil the leeks and freeze them as 'helpful' OH decided to trim them for me..... and ended up cutting off more that Tescos do! So I thought they wouldn't last so well like that so have already started the xmas day meal too, by parboiling and freezine. They will become cheesy leeks on the Big Day )

They are in the garage at the mo which is as cold as my fridge! And colder at night. I am sure they will be fine next week maybe a little floppy but hey ho

I've pulled my leeks as they're a nightmare in frozen ground but am risking leaving the carrots, parsnips, sprouts and swede until the middle of next week. Have chiselled them before so am willing to do it again if needs be.

Are they in anything, or just on the side/in a bag?

I think I'm going to have to attempt to get my nips up, my brusells have been battered by the snow, and no hope for them, have some broc, and carrots should be ok in the greenhouse. Leeks, I'd forgot about, cheers

The parsnops are in a box with some paper round - no plastic in case they sweat - although unlikely in this weather.... I had no room in my fridge for them, and not done xmas shop yet (got 11 for xmas dinner s0 needed plenty of them)

I was / am planning an away trip for xmas so my leeks remain well frozen in their pots, if I get snowed off then I guess a few kettles of hot water may need to be used to defrost enough for lunch......

Looking at the temperature today (above freezing - yippee) I may go out and dig out the parsnips. They're under a few inches of snow, but I don't want to risk not getting them out before Saturday. They'll be fine in my porch (also known as the 'Russian fridge').

My leeks have been flattened, and are frozen. Same as my sprouts, PSB, and parsnips. Would it be wise to put them in the fridge to defrost, or in garage were it's REALLY cold?

Going to dig 'em out today! Will leave carrots till xmas day, as they're in spud planters in the GH.

Thanks, Janeyo, we should have a few parsnips and leeks here too - will check them out (or ask OH to).

I've looked at the 2 bins of potatoes in the polytunnel - looks like we WON'T be eating HG spuds on Christmas Day this year!
