Blimey!.......How do you Mods keep up?.........have just had a look at who's online & I'm guessing there must be over 20 spammers. It must be a right pain keeping tabs.

Yes, just binned another 28 and that's after the others had binned a load.

In most of the writers groups i am a member of we have a reporting button to report and malicious or spam posts. Would that help?

Hopefully - you do that anyway! These are the ones that register and have links in their profiles to goods and 'services'. So they have to be binned anyway.

As they don't post - there is no button to press so we have to do it manually.

If you click on the red triangle on the top right of any post from a spammer then you will be alerting all mods and admin via e-mail.

Hopefully we catch 99% before they manage to post though.
It's a great help if peeps do that for us

Would installing the captcha mod for registration help cut the automated registrations/bots down a bit? Presumably it's been discussed in the past, but perhaps worth a mention?

I was a member of a local forum till about a year ago & I think there were only two mods
The site was besieged with spammers.
Every morning I had to "report at least two spammers sometimes as many as five.
In the end I gave up and left the forum..
I think I have reported two on this forum this week(beat the mods to it)
Keep up the good work you mods and keep the spammers out.

It took me a while too.
And often the spammer goes for 3 or 4 posts on different threads on the trot - you only need to report them once!

Chris, the Captcha thingy doesn't work where you have actual people registering though. And as this forum is run on someone else's software (vBulletin in this case), you have to wait for them to update it to get some features. Not sure if the Captcha thingy is standard yet.
Anyhoo, Admin are looking into it, so hopefully they'll come up with something helpful...
