the flaw I saw was that maybe you dont have wifi, and obviously it will only work if there is 'open' wifi around if you're out and about but then i guess, it would only be used @ home.

    fingers xds.

the other thing to do is have a look on the 'android market' (or where-ever you get BB apps from) website and see if they have something similar to skype that you can use.
And there's the rub. I have just learned (from you) that I can get BB apps. TBH it does all I want it to do except Skype. I can call, text, email and messenger (there is even a Bookface thingy too). There is a myriad other stuff that I just dont use. Not cos I dont know how to, I just dont want to, I dont find it useful. Skype is the only thing I want. If I was at home, I wouldnt be using it anyway as calls to landline numbers to most places in the world are free for me. Its only when I'm in a situation like I'm in now, phone doesnt work to UK, network is soooo poor it wont support Skype on my laptop, and my work telephone has been left for my back to back when he comes in tomorrow.
Hmmm, I will definitely look at it when I get home though, and weigh it up. Will see if I can untie the elastic band from Zazen's donkey as well.

Well i know you hang out in far flung places, but i don't know if it's the same far flung place each time, but if yes, I'd track down the local cafe / bar type place where the young'uns collect socially (if they do) as that will probably be the best place to start looking for good wifi access.

or wifi enable your phone and select the option that lets you know it's available (it normally pings or beeps) and then you just have to kind of travel around and pay attention to your phone. if it pings or beeps when you're outside, you've located an un-locked wifi account.........

I guess it depends why you want Skype on your mobile.

If you actually get Skype on your mobile then you cam connect it to a WiFi network and use Skype just like on a laptop computer. So providing you've got free access to a WiFi network there is no additional cost.

If you use a 3rd party client like iSkoot then you will incur the cost of a (hopefully) local to call to their point of presence in whatever country you are currently staying.
