Old lolly sticks for me and the labels I have already....

If I am short supply, I pop into nearest stationery store and pick up a pack of lolly type sticks from the art section...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Last year I used pencil on wilko plastic labels, but the pencil faded really quickly and within weeks the writing had disappeared altogether. Also tried using CD pens but the black ink faded to red, then yellow, then to nothing! I sowed some seeds in the greenhouse 2 weeks ago and used pencil on wilko labels again, thinking they would at least last until the seedlings were ready to pot on - but already they have faded so much that they are illegible! So I already have a greenhouse full of unidentifiable seedlings. I bought a black sharpie pen today to experiment on with the next lot of sowings. I love your labels TS!

That's weird Curly Kale.. I used the same method last year and the pencil was staying on! Not sure if the pen I borrowed off my daughter was a super charged one? I don't have the ability to keep her off my Sharpies, so I use her pencils lol

At my school allotment club, the children recycle scrap wood from the dt department- we cut it into lengths and paint names on and decorate them, then varnish. (it keeps them busy on rainy winter days)

What ever happened to that labeling gun?
The one with the alphabet on the on top ?

You twist the dial to what letter you want then squeeze the trigger, then it embeds it on to a sticky bit of plastic.

            *reaches for google*

I could imagine a lot of blisters being caused by this

The Brother gets good reviews, and I often see it on half price, but again replacement tape is expensive

no problems with a fine nibed permanent marker, from wilko's,for plant pots ext cut up blind slats, ice cream/margarine cartons, milk bottles, for out side bits of wood, better still if you can get hold of any is some thin bits of plastic from window fitting, what they use to trim and finish, and use the pen suggested to write on,go scrounging/skip diving, the white plastic is now my prefered choice as it takes up less room/weather resistant/easy washed, and can be seen, cut them 14...15..inch long, you also get more plant info on them due to a finer pen,and the ink stays put,

Takes ages to make them (drying time alone) and looks like a waste of a good spoon...maybe she was born with a set of silver ones

Alex they look a lot like cut up venetian blinds similar to those I made last year.

Is it the neat cutting or the hessian fabric that makes them hand crafted?

Am I really the only person to put a pair of ordinary kitchen scissors and a soft drinks can together, and then use pencil or a scribing tool to make a permanent label ?!
If you are worried about it blowing away, cut a longer label from a lager can, and bend it double lengthwise.
Mark you, I only do it if I can't find any of my venetian blind labels.
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
