My Son has Chrohn's disease and for a time had a temporary colostomy bag which thankfully he has now got rid of.

Without wanting to turn anyone off there meal, these bags are hard to seal against the flesh.
He's in his twenties and is very self concious so just in case there was any smell he used to douse himself in deodorant.

All I am saying is there could have been a legitimate reason for the overuse of perfume and I suppose I have become a bit more tolerant and always look for an underlying reason for its overuse.

Having said that, if it was overpowering to the extreme, I also would have asked to move.......

Men tend to apply deoderant/aftershave etc and forget about it. Women (some) apply perfume and when they get used to it, think it has worn off and apply more. My mum has breathing problems and any strong smell can set her off and I hate perfumes you can taste so, yes, I would have asked to move too.

I really really hate that "old lady" smell: Chanel No.5 or something they've had since they were a slip of a thing, but which went off in the 70s

I have a stupidly sensitive nose. There is a range of smells which makes me gag, so yes I would ask to be moved.

I can't really use any perfumes or deodarants and body lotions have to be from a specific range. Even the scent of some flowers make me sneeze.

Himself wears roll on, spray on deodorant and aftershave, every day. Good job I can't smell very well

I managed to stop OH wearing spray on pretty early on as it made me feel ill. Smells just fine with a roll on, no BO but no excessive smell.

I'm not sure if I'd ask to be moved or not, depends on my mood or where I am/who I'm with.

Can't recall having ever been in that situation.

I'm with TS on the "old lady" smells, or really "floral" smells - the ones that smell like no flower I know.

On a side note I'm often told that I smell really nice.

Being one of those nasty ashtray like smoker types I tend not to be too upset by fragrances

Also I live with teenage boys who spent years smelling like, how shall I put it? A whores handbag is the closest description

I'm with you Piskie...I find strong artificial perfumes make me feel quite ill and I can't breathe...no way I'd be able to enjoy a meal sat next to one.

A friends posh Mum once told me that perfume goes off after just three months of being opened(actually it starts to go off straight away but by three months it really should be thrown out). How many people, after spending a fortune on whatever designer perfume is their preference are prepared to throw away maybe a half a bottle just because it's been open that long?I think also the point made earlier about women constantly topping up their perfume because there noses have gotten used to the smell is true.

Working in my job I honestly don't know what is worse, people who come to the counter and have overdosed on perfume/aftershave (aramis makes me heave) or people who come to the counter who don't understand the meaning of soap and water. And you always find that they are the ones who lean over the counter as I'm trying to discreetly back off without losing contact with the poota.........

The one thing that's worse than being in a queue behind a slightly whiffy cos they don't wash type person...is the hideous spray of air freshener the shop keeper sees necessary to spray on their departure

Yes I would ask to be moved. Having worked in the trade we were told not to wear strong perfume as it offends the customers, staff at one place were given a deodorant if they turned up not smelling nicely and even a clean shirt on one occasion.
My OH cant stand the smell of a lot of things and has asked me to wash perfume off before going to bed.

I once worked with someone who had obviously been given a large bottle of 'Poison' for Christmas. Her coat reeked of it and she sometimes hung it on top of mine! Yukk! I took to putting my coat over my chair back. Fortunately when the bottle was gone she didn't re-stock.
I'm quite upset by some smells - usually chemical type perfumes. I would have to move tables too.

Oh yuk, I hated that smell, it was so strong. I don't normally wear perfume any more but even when I did, I hope I didn't wear too much.

I'm afraid I wouldn't ask to be moved, not because I think you're wrong to ask it's just that I am too much of a wimp to say anything I would be the one seething quietly and cutting the offender "looks"
