  • Suits you sir!

    One for the dudes.

LadyWayne and I are attending a chsrity ball at the end of the month through LW's work. It's likely that we'll be attending a number of such events so we decided that it would be a good idea for me to buy a dinner suit rather than hire it every time.

    So the search began.

What an absolute pain in the R's.

M&S - suits fitted the chest, but were massive on the belly - I mean huge. Next - none existent in my size.
Jeff Banks - best fitting jacket I'd tried to date. Trousers were "obsene" according to LW.
Austin Reed - nope, not in my size.

Tried a few other places and I'd resigned myself to the fact that I'd be unlikely to get trousers to fit (36" inside leg), but happily considered having them altered.

Finally tried Moss Bros (where I hired my wedding suit) and found a very good fitting suit jacket and trousers in a 33" inside leg with a view to having them taken down.

Just ordered my bow tie (proper self-tie jobby), shirt and cummerbund - so should hopefully look dapper enough to hold my own.

LadyWayne's dress should arrive any day now.

I'd love a taylor made suit - but they're spennif innit!?

Oooh now (said in a Kenneth Williams fashion).

I've gone for the James Pond look. Shaken and stirred.

The theme for this ball is shimmering ball gowns - or sparkle or something similar. I've therefore ordered a sparkle jacquard bow tie and cummerbund.

Besides, I don't really need to draw any more attention to myself - you've seen me.

Mr TS got one made when he was in Thailand - I have to say it's very good, it even has "room to grow" built in, and his name embroidered inside

I've had a tailored suit and shirt made for me - fits perfect and it is good quality. I don't know what you class as expensive, but for different materials you can adjust the price accordingly. Have you been in the 'Suits You' shops? They're more off the shelf, but often have sales on - and they've shut down a few stores recently, so you may find a good bargain there. Then there's Moss Bros - but if you wanted to go up a notch, a shop similar to Brigdens down your area would be good.

They start from affordable brands, and tailor (sent out to italy) right up into the £000's

Ooh, how 'citin! I get so excited when, actually if these days, I have a fancy doo to go to, and a sparkly one at that, I love a bit of "bling"

Years ago KK was invited to a CBI dinner which was a black tie affair and he didn't find out until the morning of the occasion He had a black tie, just in case he had a funeral to go to but nothing else so we hastily went into Ciro Citterio at lunchtime and bought everything right down to a new pair of socks. Most expensive diner he's ever been to.

I look forward to seeing a pic of you all done up in your finery. And, about holding your own....
