Plus train it properly, and not undermine your training. etc etc etc.
Or get him to be responsible for looking after the bird table you know the sort of thing putting out seed and fresh water every day, then see how long he does that before getting bored.

Thanks everyone, good sound advice as always. He's now admitted I'm probably right about the breed being wrong for us. Of course he's disappointed, but like I said when I got a parrot: I wanted a pink cockatoo, but they are incredibly noisy so I got a more suitable breed instead (and love her to bits).

I've said yes to a dog, but no to a ratter.

glad to hear he has seen sense. a dog is for 10-20 years and needs to be right for everyone in the family.

He usually comes round to my viewpoint in the end. It's just a shame that we have to have 2 days of arguing before he will

You're not the only one TS, we women can usually work our wiles on them, no matter how pig headed they are! Enjoy choosing.

I too am looking for a rescue dog, well done TS! I have a Shih Tzu at the moment and can only have non moulting dogs due to my son's allergies. All dogs have their own maintenance in terms of time, Shih Tzu's don't need masses of exercise but can take hours of grooming. It's whatever is best for you both, post a pic if you get one!
