  • J confirmed the gite yesterday with Sue Owens so there will be three spare beds in the event of wet weather if the happy campers don't want to rough it.

I'm sorting out my plants for the weekend today, decided to get myself organised well in advance then I can do a bit of baking on Thursday before we leave - looks like cherry clafoutis (cherries from one of our trees, they are wonderful this year) and perhaps chocolate brownies. Shopping tomorrow to get the things for the pasta dish to share.

Both looking forward to it, hopefully it will rain over the weekend down here so I don't have my babies too stressed being without water in this ridiculous heat - no meaningful rain since 1st April and the water butts are diminishing fast!

    • Right, rather than lug a lot of unwanted plants next weekend, here's what I have to bring/give away/swap - not expecting anything in return!

Horseradish x 2 - tho Nicos has dibs on one of them already
      French tarragon x 3
Aubergine x 4 (small still) white, round, egg (ronde d'oeuf)
      Aubergine 'Black Beauty' x 2
      Tomatoes:
      Ananas Vert x 1
      Ferris Wheel x 2
      Calabash Red x 2
      Maritime Pink x 2
      Orange Queen x 1
      Marmande X 3
Cerise Rouge (maybe French Gardener's Delight) x 6

      Amaranthus x 'Intense Purple' x 22

      Grasses:
Lagurus Ovatus (Hare's Tail Grass) x 15 (or more)
Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra' (Japanese Blood Grass) x up to 10

So, first come first served, if you want any opf the above, please let me know and I'll bring them but if nobody wants a particular thing, I wont bring them.

And if you want any oaklets or beechlings, please let me know and I'll then know how many to lift.

      Phew !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Tony...can I contact you nearer the time????
I reckon if you can spare them all, between us we'll find a new home for the lot!!!

I was wondering how tall the tree saplings are???
My hazel are up to 2ft tall.( I have about 6)

I also have loads and loads of black cherry ( 1ft high) if I can get them out of the concrete soil intact ( very heavy cropper , sweet, large and juicy).
Also dill and green sweet gooseberries ( heavy cropping)
          Small sage plants- about 12

There may be a couple of thornless blackberries which produce huge, inedible fruit which makes utterly superb jelly...again- it depends on the soil.

Let me know peeps- I'll happily bring the lot

(Cloudy but warm today- still no rain here ( 2hrs N/E of Boble's)...nippy at night though!!)

          6 days and counting down!

          • Ooh, do you think you can dig me up a couple of cherry saplings - actually, I can take quite a few if you have them to spare. Also, I would love a couple of goosegogs!

Weather looking good for Friday and Saturday but Sunday and Monday (tent packing day) not so good at the moment but, hopefully, things change.

I can bring some (well, loads) of raspberry seedlings if anyone wants any - give me a shout.

            Very excited already!

            • Sorry for v intermittent appearances on here currently but work and a shocking connection to the Vine are plaguing me.
Spoke to Mme P today, the big tent is going up this evening in the garden, loos are confirmed, she also did a weather check, and surprise surprise apparently its going to be pants. Curses. Whilst you are mainly having warm sunny weather and dry as a dry thing, here in north Africa its chilly and absolutely hosing it down. Then I get home for more of the same. Bertram Bonus!!
Not at home obviously so no idea what I have to give away apart from plum trees and sloe bushes, but there'll be "stuff" I'm sure.

              • The oaklets and beechlings are about a foot high - if there are enough, I'd like a couple of hazels, goosegogs and as many raspberry seedlings as you want to get rid of.

Made a policy decision, bringing everything and we can sort it out from there - tho I need to get right into the woods in the next few days to dig the oaks out of the soft undergrowth, the near stuff is baked hard.

Bob, can you send some of the wet stuff along to 24, 46 & 47 please, I've upended two of my potager butts this evening, we have a local canicule declared from Monday so I'm moving what remaining water I have stored around the butts tomorrow.
