defogging your windows?

me and him are at war about this

he cranks my heating and blowers up to max, then I get really hot, start to sweat (more vapour) and open the window

I tend to open the window as the first option, without whacking on the heating


thoughts please, kind people (it's a tiny car and mists up really quickly) (I haven't found the air-con button yet, I'll explore that later on)

In the winter (Volvo time) I use air conditioning but in Flossie (in the summer) I put the roof down

I think speed is more important than heat, so blower gets turned up to max speed but not necessarily max heat and both get turned to a comfortable level as soon as the windows clear.

Personally I find very little need to clear the windows in Summer.

We use one of these sponges that take off the mist.

Aircon dries the air out, so will clear the fog faster, it's just, obviously bloomin freezing.. There's some blurb in my manual about it, and whenever I select the demist window option on the blowers the aircon comes on automatically.

Also selecting the air recirculation mode will clear them faster too as it doesn't have to condense "new air" all the time

Opening the windows (but it doesn't need to be much) is more reliable. It's all about ventilation, if the moist air can't get out, then it will condense out on any cooler surface it finds. If it is possible to leave a tiny opening when the car is parked (can be a security issue) then you tend to have less condensation to deal with on starting. I have PROVED that this works, and OH now opens windowsin condensation weather, but not on fast roads.
I can't breathe in an over-hot car. Moderate heat, plus a little opening to the window is what seems to give best results in our car (and even more in the 'reserve' car which has a faulty fan, so we only get a decent air flow when travelling fairly fast).

Fan and heat on until it's warmed up, then back down to a normal level. If it's damp inside, crack the window a little to let the condensation out. I have a 'clear screen' button which puts the fan on fast, blowers on to screen only and heated screen and mirrors on too. All on one button - clever! Once it's clear, I push the button again, and normality resumes.

If he doesn't like it, tell him to take his own car! You could get in his car and move all his controls. I had a colleague who used to do that - he's get in a vehicle, turn the radio on, full volume, fans on full speed, and wipers on fast. Then he'd get out and lock the vehicle and put the keys back where they belonged. It made the next driver nearly cack themselves when they turned on the ignition.

Also if you turn the heating off and open the windows just as you're coming to the end of your journey it helps to cool everything down to help prevent it for the next time........

I answered my own question: today I had cold blower, no heat and window open a crack (1cm)

Worked a treat, no fog at all and no hot sweats either
