  • New windows - one not quite right.. what would you do?

Just had new windows + doors, my windows all are 1/2 openers (that is, the frames are split in half and the top halves open - so a frame, has a 'cross' from dividing the window into four equal panes of glass, with the top two opening).

Our lounge has a side window, only a narrow one - but tall. Attached for ref.

This window has been supplied with the top 1/3rd opening, rather than 1/2 opening as per the instructions/survey. I can get half of the cost of that window back if I leave it in place, or they'll replace it if I so wish next week.

I'm torn, my wife says it's fine and would look odd as 1/2 an opener - the original wooden windows were 1/2 openers etc. The rest of the windows in the house are 1/2 openers - as with the rest of the houses on the estate.

I think it looks odd, but £150 is still £150 in my pocket. Her argument is that we never notice the window as the curtains are closed near the top, and open near the bottom sorta thing.

I'm a pedant. Small things bug me - as this isn't balanced with the rest of the house I know it'll bug me (yes, I know, I'm odd).

    What would you do?

Edit: pic removed - in a lower post!

Is that photo supposed to be rotated 90 degrees?

It's hard to say with neckache!

You have to live with it. If it's going to bug you THAT much, change it!

do you have pics of the other windows?
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand

oh yeah, hah it should be rotated... bloomin phone. You're right poddington.. it does bug me, but on the other hand, what a waste of materials.. unless they can fit it on another house like mine I assume it'll be skipped. Argh. Moral dilemma!

Is it on the same elevation (side) as any other windows? If so, could you post a picture?

I'm fussy too, so I sympathise.

they are a bit different so i would probably change it ,especially if there is another window on the same elevation as the tall thin one as this will make it look even more out of place

but that is only my opinion!!

you could ask them to chaqnge it and refund you £75 for the inconvenience of taking a day off to allow access etc. (cheeky but effective!!)

I'd take half the money back and just tut each time I thought of it. In time, it will be a distant memory as other annoying things take over your life!

Chris if the windows bugging you now then its always going to, so if it was me I'd have it changed. I've had a bit of a play at making the window half and half.

Thanks BIP - I did similar in PS, but can't decide now hehe.

No other windows on that side of the house (it's the side of the house) so it's not noticeable really.. there's worse things that I could loose sleep over. Doesn't help mrs and I have had a bit of a barney so can't exactly get a decent answer out of her.

Yeah this is what I mentioned to him (actually had the owner of the company on the phone which was a nice change) - he just wanted to please me, so may ask for a back rub too

Just like to say that the windows on the side of my house do not match the others. They are casement opening and t'others are sashes, also ones stained glass and t'other isn't ........They've always been like that and it doesn't bother me.........I guess I'm just used to it by now....I'd take the money...

Yeah - I've nothing better to do! It was just as a comparison. Like I said, I'm fussy too, and I know it would bug me.

If there are no other windows on that side, then I don't suppose it will be noticeable. Go for the refund and give it to Mrs. CM to stop her being mad at you. Bribery usually works with me! LOL
