      My Dad's born and breed in Sheffield (Stocksbridge) and Mum was from Barnsley but talked a bit like Hyacinth Bucket . My OH couldn't make my ascent out when we first met. I dun't think people can mistake it now

                    IIRC the German phrase, translated, is 'make the door to'.
                    Regional variations in phrases stem from a time when different regions spoke different languages. I'm not so sure multiculturalism is a failure!
