I'm not 'North' (London parents and grew up in hearing range of Heathrow), but the instruction "pull the door to" is one I understand with no problem. It doesn't mean exactly the same as 'shut' though, If the door is shut, it is latched (or equivalent) 'to' means closed without the latch engaging..... (well it did for my parents)
Pulling the door 'to' in our family means, not quite closed, ie there is a gap. Leave the door 'ajar' being the same thing. Not, as my beloved says; leave it on the jar!
