See now pw, I normally have a very cheery disposition, seldom dour always looking for the funny side of things, but I don't like V'day.

Was it Chaucer that created the myth of valentines?

And Christmas well thats all about the anticipation rather than the reality isn't it.

The lady arrived home and guess what 'brownie points' all round and lots of hugs.

Like she said she can have chocs & flowers anyday but she loves the taps.

Trouble is the local reservoir is starting to get depleted as she keeps trying them.

I honestly, truly thought that Valentine's Day was next Friday until I came down this morning to a card and chocolates!
Never mind, I have a lovely surprise for Jim tonight. I'm working, my daughter's working and Jim has two children for the night.
Really, I don't set any store by Valentine's Day, if someone washes up occasionally and cleans the lav. that's romantic enough for me.

One observation I've had is that number of girls on here who buy their guys flowers, not something I've ever considered doing for anybody male over the years but then again I don't really do flowers much anyway as much prefer a living plant as (hopefully!) it'll last a lot longer

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Well, my valentine's day/night just got better, as due to work stuff, Mr OWG isn't in Daventry! He is back for the night, as he has been working in his normal office today

So we are having chilli and rice tonight, and we might open some of the elderflower fizz we made last year, and then we'll be having an early night

But only cos he has to get up at 4am tomorrow to go to Daventry!

'We can be romantic any day', yes, and you can give a friend or relation presents any day, so why bother doing it on their birthday?
Some of us like the 'special occasion-ness', without having to be commercialised. That said, I'd rather do the special bits on our wedding anniversary, but not every couple has a special date of their own (falling in love was rather gradual, and they haven't had a ceremony of any kind), so Valentine's provides them with the occasion.

I am just about to go downstairs and surprise my other half with the new comedy thong that I bought just for the occasion

I'm an awkward cow, I hate all the roses & chocolates nonsense. Buy me something I like!

He did the washing up today, that's enough for me

We're all jaded after only 18 of em so tend to aim roughly at a day around that to be vaguely romantic. Got engaged on the 20th anyway (as the Valentine's meal out that year was such a huge disaster), so never really get around to it too much. OH does get me roses each year, which is nice, and I usually get a small token pressie (choccy orange in with his lunch today as a surprise ).

We did the Markies meal last night cause it was looking too yummy in the fridge, so I decided to cook something nice this afternoon, spur of the moment and all that. He doesn't know yet - playing lego star wars with the wee one, so should be nice.

Well, we had our 1st Valentines meal out yesterday, which was yummy. His roses arrived safely at 11 this morning, and I was given the BBC 'Pride and Prejudice' DVD box set this evening...so I'm enjoying an evening with Mr Darcy while MrPB is having 'a little lie down' upstairs.

Just polished off a couple of scoops of my home made chocolate and chilli sorbet that I made for last night's dinner but didn't set in time. Served with some lush strawberries and raspberries.

LadyWayne might have one of the Charbonnel et Walker choccies that I bought for her in a bit.

She didn't fancy another Cosmopolitan (made them last night).

Yes but at least somebody's birthday is personal to them not just a lumped in together thing. Not everybody might have an anniversary date but everybody has special days and can celebrate as they wish with pink flower if they want but my preference would be well away from the frilly stuff as it makes me want to vomit
