Really very sorry to hear about your current health status - I hope the chemo doesn't last long and that the future is bright.

You do have to speak to your health professionals as they will know what's best for you and they will want to know from a research capacity too (all recorded side effects get reported back to the drug company as it gets written into the patient leaflet or may indicate something else they need to research.)

I had the most chronic heart burn during my pregnancy (a well recorded reaction) and I started drinking liquid Gaviscon by the bottle load after trying all the home remedies but eventually I persuaded them to give me anti acid tablets in the end because i'd got to the stage where eating was near impossible and I couldn't lay down any more.

Thank you all. I knew you'd have some good ideas.
I'm being zapped for breast cancer and it's every week at the moment which is a pain in the patoot.I find it really upsets the insides!
I'm back at the clinic tomorrow so I'll talk to the nurse but in the meantime I'll gather some of those remedies for emergencies. It was really bad Saturday night but not so bad today.
      Thank you all again.

I have a friend on chemo over here- I'll e-mail her and ask if she has this problem and if she's been recomended anything.

(I would have thought asking your consultant/nurse/pharmacist????...our pharmacist is always recommending herbal cures)
Mine just gave me MORE rennies! I'm feeling full of chalk

Best of luck with the treatments...
i dont have heartburn I have acid reflux (and they are much the same thing)- no pain but the acid comes up the oesophagus and burns your throat which can wake you up in the night choking.....it makes no difference what I eat ...i always have it ...i take RANITIDENE ...on prescription a 150mg tablet disssolved in water every night. You can buy it without prescription also ...in england only 75mg but i think more than that here. Also sold as Zantac - but the ingredient is ranitidene.

Really sorry you're having such a bad time of it Patchninja, hope everything goes well. As Glutton4 suggests my mum used to sip peppermint cordial & found it helped, I just suck cheap indigestion tablets or polo mints as I generally just get mild indigestion, O.H. takes the Gaviscon liquid which is a bit stronger.Aniseed, fennel & ginger are supposed to be good too, you could try chewing some fennel seeds with a bit of sugar or having a peppermint tea maybe?

My friend has replied and says she's had dreadful probs with this- and has tried out lots of different things from the hosp- until they finally hit on the right one. Everyone is different - so she says tell them about it- and nag. Eventually it'll get sorted.

...remember our cultural differences too....most Brits put up with an awful lot more than the 'typical' French so do nag otherwise they'll maybe not take you quite as seroiusly as they need to

(It's certainly something that I've noticed too)

I hope you don't feel too ill, and goes ok. My mother lived on gaviscon during her treatment.
