Hay on Wye

Just got back from a valentine's/Mr Miffy's birthday weekend away.

If you have never been you have got to go. Amazing book shops, I have never seen so many gardening books in all my life!!

Wicked antique shops, including one that sold really old refurbished gardening tools and gardening equipment.

Amazing cake shops, well you have to don't you!!

Stopped in a pub that was a bit like a time warp but sold cider from the cask, yummy!! Old Rosie at 7.9% proof, I could literally feel my brain going numb as I drank it!!

Anyone else been to Wye or know of any other wicked place to visit for the weekend?

Know it well; uncle used to lie just outside the village and we often used to stay an extra night at my mum's in South Wales and drive back via Hay - have a little lunch - do some book shopping and then drive home.

Never been, but it sounds worth a visit.

Yes wonderful place, used to say it was half way from family in south wales and used it as a refreshment stop etc.
We would meet there and exchange christmas presents as well, many happy times.
You have me thinking that it is time for a visit again as I have not been for many years as we tend to use the motorway now as opposed to the "old road".

Sorry, Miffy - I kind of lost the plot...

I have a friend from down that way, lovely part of the world. We WILL get down there with the Caravan one of these days. Sounds like you had a really great time.

A very dear friend of mine (RIP) used to visit the Hay Festival every year, and rave about Hay on Wye. We were tempted to go there this year for our holiday, but last year we went to Stratford, and this year my DD really wants to go somewhere near a beach, so Devon won out.
Next year though!!

The inn we went to is called the roast ox inn at painscastle about five miles out of hay. It was a funny old pub but the cider was yummy, about ten different ciders including cask scrumpy. Old rosie at 7.9 was the one that made my bra
in go numb!!! Bounds was another really nice one and not as mind numbingly strong!
