No, I didn't, GN - perhaps it's just my age that means that I automatically mentally follow the words 'middle east' with 'conflict', or perhaps just the current unrest makes me more aware - either way, I was pretty rubbish at knowing how the area all slots together!

I hope your friend's grandson (and all the Forces) stay safe.

For me Africa was ok - and I managed to get most of the middle east with a bit of thought (and a few tries) but I gave up on the whole area that ended with 'an'. Couldn't to my shame find any of them.

        OMG - Officially rubbish!

I was OK with most of the African ones, rubbish with the 'Stans'.... never realised that Qatar and Bahrain were so small compared to everything else.

It helped that all the Libyan refugees have been going to Tunisia - easier to place on the map; and that I vaguely recognised the shape of Iraq from stuff on TV...

I got the middle east correct, but I frequently travel there. Got a few 'stans' mixed up, was OK in the area around Turkey but was lost on the countries below Egypt, Tunisia etc. I bet I'd do worse on a map of europe (eastern europe especially)

I got the North African ones and a few others but safe to say my Geography is also shocking. OH and I did manage it eventually with a few attempts, very interesting though!

Interesting site. I didn't do too badly (usually at least got the country next door, if I was wrong).

I wonder how much it REALLY matters though? From the above, I think we all knew roughly which bits went where. Obviously being fully informed is always best but I think that (say) knowing about the current political situation in Libya is a lot more important than being able to find it on a map. With time, we could all learn to do that very easily, keeping abreast of and understanding current affairs is a very different issue.
