  • Celtic v Rangers

A massive part of life in the west of scotland but how much does it mean outwith our small area???

    have you heard of it?

    do you have a favourite?

    do you care?

or are we making it more than it is worth?
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand

To be honest I'm not really a great fan of football ( we ARE talking football here aren't we???)

Personally I'd be much more interested if they played in kilts though!!

I have no preference for either team but last night Rangers had 3 players sent off, which seems a tad excessive.

And then their deputy manager went toe to toe with the Celtic manager.

All seems a bit ott really.

I'm afraid I can't stand football, but Himself is a huge fan of the game. He enjoys games where the players "get stuck in", but he doesn't condone the sometimes unnecessary violence!

I'm with you Flo on this one footballs not my cup of tea. Although saying that I love to watch & support mi country.
OH's a season ticket holder for Barnsley. I still think it's the 3 hours before and the 3 hours after the match in the pub with his mates, that he likes more than the game

I grew up just outside Glasgow and the Rangers/Celtic divide is huge, people would ask which school you went to to see where your loyalties lay!
Doesnt seem to matter up here in the sticks.

Grew up in Glasgow and it is about time the players and especially managers of both teams, grew up. The managers were acting like a couple of spoiled wee kids. Big hefty fines are in order for the managers. No wonder the incidence of domestic violence in Glasgow goes through the roof every time there is an old firm, when the players and managers can't behave. I'm ranting and I just saw clips on the news this morning (plus I don't like football - bunch of over paid woosies with morals of alley cats)

Born and raised in Glasgow, born and brought up a Bluenose. No options, no choice. Still a Bluenose. Always will be but not as avid as I was in my younger days - season ticket holder when I lived there, travelling supporter from my time in Aberdeen, and still travelled to home games when I was in London for 13 years. Last game I actually attended was four seasons ago - other priorities now - like two daughters and a demanding work schedule !

                    Hi bigt
I'm from the emerald isle and I can assure you that Celtic and rangers are a massive deal. It's more than just football here, it's a religious tag that people latch on to. I don't follow either team even though I'm a keen football supporter( Liverpool) but the scenes after the match where disgraceful. It could have sparked a riot at the match or here and it gives genuine fans a bad name.

LOL I'd never have guessed!! Don't matter to me anyway - didn't stop me from marrying one from Belfast ! No denying that you are in the ascendancy at the moment and that we are slowly dying due to the banks heavy handedness - but it could all change again in the blink of an eye - I remember the heady days of Helicopter Sundays!!

                          Football violence; pathetic.

Honestly - I can understand a little scuffle on the pitch when you are playing but as stated above; it's just tribalism.

If you are going to fight - fight about something that matters.

Yeah, it's tribal, people have a need to 'belong' but when what they 'belong' to is aggressive towards those who 'belong' to something else, it's bad. THAT is the true cause of 'religious' wars, not religious belief, but the use of religion to form a 'tribe'.

Tribalism in this context is sensational, exciting and exhilirating....but its a pity that some of the morons can't get their heads round the fact that thay are the exact same as the morons on the other side...

i have been going to these matches since i was a kid and have never been involved in any trouble so it is possible to go along and fully enjoy the rivalry(tribalism) without the violence and unpleasantry..

i just wish that the media would portray it in a more realist manner rather than sensationalise things the way the undoubtably do (we have had 4days of front and back page news on our national papers since the last match) just because a manager and assistant manager nearly had a fight
