I'm Back (again)

Well you may remember my last post entitled - I'm Back.

I am afraid to say that I was not back for very long as my ISP played up again and I could only sneak on here during working hours.

I have been able to get on here no problem now for the last 3 nights so I think the problem must be sorted

Anyway I had a look through all the potato threads and it seems that all questions have been answered very well in my absence. Infact they have been answered so well that I am left sitting on the sidelines waiting for new questions to be asked so that I can try and answer them.

Have I missed much in the last couple of months since I have been away?

Hi Tattieman and welcome back. My favourite potatoes have always been "Boston", but I assume they are given that name because they are grown in Boston in Lincolnshire? Any idea if I could get a variety that would replicate them?

Hi TM, I grow my pots in pots as they are easier to empty than my raised beds, am I losing out on yield?

I have a question. It can probably be answered by a major search on here or a 'Google,' but, as you're feeling unwanted (LOL), I thought I'd ask;

What is the best spud, if any, to plant in my 'Lasagne' beds? The are made up of stable manure, chicken coop manure (both containing shavings and finely chopped straw), grass mowings, wood ash and old leaves.

Mr. G likes King Edwards best of all, and I also like Cara and Maris Piper, if that's any help. Also, as I'm not organised, and still haven't bought my spuds for this year I really need to get my arris into gear, so I could be putting in an order!

Florence Fennel a popular spud down there is Maris Piper but it could be anything that is planted in that area and then harvested to be called a Boston.

dogsbody I find that the earlies can produce as big a crop if grown in containers but when it comes to maincrops unless you feed them really well you will lose out on yield.

Bren In Pots when we plant on a commercial scale I have a man that counts all of the potatoes as they come out of the planter to make sure each row has an even number in it as it would be unlucky otherwise

FionaH as a young boy I once tried to dig to Australia but found it was very hard going. I suspect the potatoes would think the same

Glutton4... You have alot of feeding in those beds and it would suit maincrops like you have said. I think any of your mentioned varieties would be ideal. The ideal potato for everyone has not been bred yet.

Pumpkin Becki that sounds like a really good idea and I am sure it will work. If the summer is dry then we could all do a combined rain dance

You won't need to plant them as deep!
