Stolen dog. Poster question.

Hi Grapes.

There is a lovely gentleman, Tom, that live a few doors up from me. Sweetheart really, always says hello and asks how you are, even tho his wife died a few months ago.

He has 2 chiwawa's and always walks them. This morning he popped in the local shop, as always, and when he came out one of his dogs had gone. A lady had seen a young youth running down the road dragging the poor dog behind (it couldnt keep up it is 10 years old).

Tom is devastated as it was his wifes dog and all he had left of her. The other dog wont stop looking for his pal, The last thing he said to me is, " I wonder if they are treating ok"

The police were called and my husband legged it down the road in hope to catch the **** that took it. Then jumped in the car and looked further.

Anyway needless to say the poor little dog has not been found.

We feel like we have to do something to help poor Tom, I have suggested making some posters to put up and I will ask the school to mention it in their weekly news letter.

My question is ....

What contact number should I put on the posters. I dont want to put Toms as I think he has enough to worry about without loads of random callers.

Is it ok to just simply put contact the police and give the local station number?

How awful Munch. I'm not sure whether you'd be allowed to tell people to contact the local police - ring your local station and ask? We had a German Shepherd stolen once, Oscar, the other one Siggi, pined for him for ages he used to sit looking at the gate as if he was waiting for him to come back. Turned out to be a gang pinching pedigrees in the area. We never got him back. You can only hope that this is a prank, albeit a very cruel one and someone will find the dog when the young rissole gets tired of it. Fingers crossed for your old friend.

How devastating for the old chap, someone we knew had their dog stolen from out side the local shops once, if I remember right they got him back through the power of the internet . He's been moved out of the area ..........

Don't put the owners number - the little scrote who stole his dog might ring him to wind him up, but I do think someone elses number who could deal with any calls for him would be good. Check the local vets and dogs homes over the next few days as well.

I really hope this has a happy ending.

That's despicable, what a heart breaking thing to happen to an old fella especially just after he's lost his wife. I would think the local police station might be the best number to put on the poster, but if it's anything like round here you don't get put through to your local station. Fingers crossed he's reunited with his pet soon munch.

You could try animal search UK
Check with Tom if the dog is insured as insurance companies will usually pay for them to do a poster campaign as well. In any case you can register for free and they will alert anyone registered as a volunteer in your area to keep an eye out for it. They also allow you to use a central number which you can put on posters and can be contacted 24/7. They then contact the owner if there is any news.

What a dreadful thing to happen. Get in touch with Doglost, put on the poster that you have done and whatever say he is 'chipped. This sometimes frightens the theif into "finding" the dog and handing him in. Contact all the shelters for many miles around and put ads. in all the local papers. Good luck in finding him.
